TOUT ES TOUJOURS PARFAIT!

En premier lieu, vous serez sans doute d’accord avec moi pour remercier Stereo d’avoir fait venir Sebastien Léger vendredi le 25 aout 23, merveilleusement accompagnés par le duo montréalais en plein essor international Hicky&Kalo. Il fallait voir ça au moins une fois dans une vie de musique!

L’histoire qui suit vous prendra quelques minutes à lire, mais elle contient des éléments assez épiques dans sa conclusion, que tous les (((habitués))) comprendront, alors accrochez-vous, et allons-y, un mot après l’autre. c’est VOTRE histoire après-tout.

Donc, la plupart d’entre vous connaissent certainement le concept « modular » de Sébastien Léger, et y étiez même expressément pour cela, mais si vous n’en étiez pas avisé, disons que le head liner a effectué une classe de maitre impeccable sur une console qui a tout du panneau de commande d’une navette spatiale plutôt que des tables tournantes classiques.

Et c’est un peu en cela que l’un de mes amis musicien depuis plus de 40 ans a réagi en disant  » c’est un DJ d’une autre planète ce gars là, voilà ce qu’est Sébastien Léger !

et j’avoue que de le voir dans ses vidéos de la série « modulaire » est impressionnant, mais de le voir en personne travailler constamment sans lâcher un seul instant son focus pour toujours manœuvrer la musique est franchement remarquable, et techniquement fascinant.

Pour le set de Léger, j’ai choisi pour danser un endroit un peu en retrait avec vue directe sur le dj pendant une bonne vingtaine de minutes afin de le regarder travailler sans cesse sur sa console modulaire miniature pour sortir le son, aligner les rythme et faire éclater les effets sonores. Le mec il n’arrêtes pas un instant ! Et il danse, et a l’air d’avoir du fun ! Un vrai pilote de navette spatiale, très en contrôle et agréable à regarder jouer avec son plancher de danse.

Je ne suis pas expert en modulations, mais à mon humble avis, il a livré une performance Spectaculaire autant au niveau mélodique que textural, avec un son très pur et précis, sans jamais trop envahir l’espace. C’était une expérience franchement impeccable artistiquement, unique pour les danseurs et digne d’une masterclass pour n’importe quel Dj. En conséquence, Kudo à Sebastien Léger pour s’être donné à fond pendant les 90 min de son set et avoir livré le produit !

En plus il a été très gentil et a accepté de signer la casquette qui avait été offerte originalement par Danny T à plusieurs danseurs lors d’un Stereo en 2019 ou 2020 je crois, casquette qui a pris la valeur sentimentale à chaque signature (Danny T, Feu Angel Moraes, Chus&Ceballos, Guy-J, John Digweed, Sébastien Léger) **Photo

Vous savez, Pour performer dans les meilleures conditions de succès, une pointure internationale de ce niveau mérite les meilleurs dj pour ouvrir la soirée et réchauffer les danseurs, et c’est en effet d’une ouverture organiquement dans le ton et en phase avec le son « All Day I Dream » que nous ont offert H&K, comme des pros.

Il faut réaliser que pour un dj, ce n’est pas toujours évident d’ouvrir pour un gros nom, car cela demande beaucoup d’humilité et de savoir-faire musical afin de garantir la mise en valeur de l’invité sans pour autant se dénaturer.

Si l’on considère que la mission principale de H&K vendredi était de préparer la salle pour accueillir l’artiste dans des conditions idéales et lui permettre de briller à son meilleur pendant 90 min, alors mission accomplie, si je me fie à tout le monde qui en parlait tout simplement, donc opinion très partagée.

Et le reste de la soirée, c’est du gravy !

Leur retour après Léger pour continuer la nuit jusqu’au bout leur a visiblement permis de s’amuser à fond et de nous offrir de la bonne groove prog très tribale et profonde. L’ensemble de leur nuit forme un tout à la hauteur des attentes et promet un avenir brillant sur les plus grandes scènes à nos deux boys de la scène underground montréalaise.

Toutes les nuits sont uniques, et chaque Stereo est différent et a son histoire puisque chacune de vos expériences l’est aussi.

Selon la logique modulaire et « analogue », le set de S Léger que vous avez entendu au Stéréo était LIVE crée par l’artiste sur le moment, et il ne sera jamais réentendu à l’identique dans le futur, c’est ce qui lui donne cette valeur. Sachez votre chance si vous y étiez.

Comme chaque fois, c’est un plaisir de contempler le spectacle lumineux et spatial des jeux de lasers majestueux dans tout l’espace au dessus du plancher de danse. Gros love @Luc, écœurant l’effet des jets de gaz du plafond avec les lights. Première fois que je les ai trouvé si beaux ceux là….

Les danseurs de Montréal sont privilégiés d’avoir un endroit comme ((())) pour accueillir des artistes qui se démarquent dans toute la sphère électronique mondiale, et expérimenter la danse dans toutes les… modulations lol. D’ailleurs c’était très agréable de revoir de nombreux vieux amis de l’industrie qui sont sortie spécialement pour la visite de Léger.

DEUX ANECDOTES DU SOUL OF STEREO COMME PROTECTEUR…

(Petit extra de lecture 3 min – mais VRAIMENT savoureux pour sa conclusion incroyable.)

Pour mettre en place le sujet, avez vous déjà entendu l’expression « l’Esprit Stereo »? Ou Stereo Spirit, ou le Soul du Stereo ?

Le termes ne vient pas de moi, mais existe depuis des décennies, et désigne pas mal toute la magie qui se passe là bas, vous savez la bonne vibe, l’entraide, les beaux hasards, et les centaines de téléphones ou portefeuilles perdus et ramenés majoritairement au vestiaire ? Bon, c’est de ça qu’on parle…

Ce n’est pas toujours le cas, mais notre groupe d’amis a bénéficié de deux « bénédictions de l’Esprit Stereo » vendredi dernier…. et j’ai deux anecdote très imagées qui illustrent bien son essence.

1- Le pendentif au sol

La première situation est que très tard dans la nuit, bien après le départ de Léger, « par hasard », en haut des marches, j’ai retrouvé un bijou de grande valeur symbolique à un ami à qui je l’avais offert il y a déjà quelques années. Mon ami porte ce bijou presque à chaque fois qu’il joue de la musique ou sors danser, et avait quitté le stereo avant même que je ne trouve l’Objet en question.

Sérieux ! Quelles étaient les chances que dans un stereo ben plein, avec tout le monde qui passe les marches, nons seulement personne n’a remarqué le collier avec le pendentif en forme de diapason au sol, qui a du être là au moins une bonne heure, et que ce soit moi qui le trouve, le gars qui a donné ce bijou unique à un seul autre humain…

C’est quoi les chances?

En fait, Je le cherchais pas, c’est le SOUL qui me l’a fait briller dans le noir dans un reflet de laser. Ça a flashé, deux fois, ça m’a intrigué, je me suis approché, et quand mon cerveau a réalisé ce que je voyais, wow! Le diapason m’appelait, littéralement.

La gratitude! Le diapason a donné le juste ton… Juste ça, c’est épique.

Le deuxième bénédiction de l’esprit Stereo sur nous est encore plus folle :

Bon, à la fermeture, vous savez comment ca se passe, on jase dehors, on fume, on échange sur la soirée… Ca chill. Moi je jase avec des gens rencontrés durant la nuit avec qui nous avons dansé et discuté un peu, car en bas j’avais remarqué le tatoo de la fille, qui m’a interpellé : tout es toujours parfait.

Elle m’explique que c’est le titre d’un livre (que je vais trouver) et que oui, en bout de ligne, est-ce que tout n’est pas TOUJOURS parfait ? Même longtemps après ?

Of Course Girl ! que je lui réponds.

Je le pense aussi, parce que ça arrête pas de ben aller… comme on le dit entre nous.

Pendant ce temps, un des amis de notre groupe s’en va au Mcdo chercher des smoothies. Il revient les mains ben pleines…

En s’assoyant sur le trottoir, il réalise qu’il n’a pas son cellulaire dans les poches.

Il se précipite au McDo, là ou il l’a déposé sur le comptoir quand il a payé…

Pu de téléphone bien entendu. Quelqu’un l’avait ramassé.

Vous connaissez le Mcdo, C’est pas le genre de place sécuritaire mettons… On appelle le cell, le voleur l’a déjà fermé, impossible de le localiser avec iphone. Damn!

Disons que ca te pète une fin de party pas à peu près, car tout d’un coup, il y a des urgences à régler pour sécuriser les comptes, accéder aux profils, etc etc… La bouillasse quoi!

Fa que on fait ce qu’on peu, on essaye tout avec I-Locate et cie, sans succès, sans réponse, et j’envoie malgré tout un message texto du genre « ARGENT EN ÉCHANGE DU CELL », et on lâche prise.

La journée passe, on rappel le cellulaire disparu vers 16h, le gars répond.

Oui, il veux de l’argent contre le telephone.

PERFECT, c’est une meilleure option que de tout remplacer…

Fa que on envoie quelqu’un à Longueuil avertir et ramasser le propriétaire du téléphone pour l’accompagner au Mcdo à côté du club sur Ste-Cath.

Par chance, le voleur était un sans abris come les autres, qui voulait surtout combler ses besoins primaires. C’était pas un ti-crosseur de fraude. Bien sur ils ont essayé d’ouvrir le cell, mais quand ils ont vu qu’il n’y avait rien a faire, ils ont décidé de demander le cash puisqu’on l’avait proposé en premier. Très bon choix.

Alors on organise la rencontre exactement là ou il a pris le cell, le gars arrive, mon ami aussi… Il lui dit merci d’avoir fait la bonne chose.

Les deux se regardent…

« Heille jte connais toi » lui dit mon copain. Enlève donc tes lunettes…

Ben jure lé!! le gars qui avait le téléphone était une très ancienne connaissance de vie!

Les deux s’étaient tres bien connu il y a des années très lointaines, mais la vie de l’autre a mal tourné, il s’est ramassé là, toxico et dans la rue. Pas de mauvaise intentions, juste une mauvaise condition, et des besoins à assurer $.

Le gars s’est excusé, mon ami lui a donné un montant pour remercier le bon geste tel qu’entendu, et en a même rajouter un peu plus par humanisme au nom de ses valeurs de « l’esprit de la vie underground » (le S.O.U.L : Spirit Of Underground Living)…

Sérieux!

Quelles étaient les statistiques improbables de réussir à récupérer un cell disparu au Mcdo, et que grâce à notre détermination et notre bonne volonté, la personne qui rapporte l’objet sacré à nos vies est en fait une ancienne connaissance du propriétaire…

Incroyable. Au final, aucune perte, tout es rentré dans l’ordre sans aucun impacte pour notre groupe malgré deux situations qui auraient pu laisser de grands regrets.

Au contraire, nous partageons la Gra-ti-tude envers l’Univers, car si ce n’est pas ca le S.O.U.L du Stereo, je ne sais pas c’est quoi.

bien entendu, nous ne pourrons jamais démontrer absolument que les choses sont liées, mais dans ma croyance, elles le sont, et en conséquence, le fait d’avoir consciemment demandé dans mon coeur de joindre la conscience du voleur par l’Univers fait tout son sens. On ne pourra jamais le savoir, mais je crois que l’amour est un puissant facteur d’influence même sur les choses que l’on ne comprends pas…

Sérieux, ça ne s’invente pas une histoire comme ça… (en fait DEUX histoires comme ça) lol

Mais ça se vit au Stereo par exemple!

Et vous en avez vous aussi ! nous en aurions des dizaines à raconter au fil des ans…

Béni soit (((le temple))) pour tout ce qu’il nous apporte et longue vie à Mike et Tommy qui le font exister.

Comme la musique de Sébastien Léger qui doit être assemblé en un tout grâce aux modules de branchement externes afin prendre forme et avoir une structure mélodique, nos vies sont composées de modules de temps attachés ou détachés, mais qui forment un tout, et parfois, on ne sait pas d’ou viennent les attaches du passé qui assurent nos futurs, mais cela nous relient au grand tout quoi qu’il en soit, car vous savez quoi ?

The story that follows will take you a few minutes to read, but it contains some pretty epic elements in its conclusion, which all (((regulars))) will understand, so hang on, and let’s get on with it, one word at a time. it’s YOUR story after all.

So, most of you are no doubt familiar with Sébastien Léger’s « modular » concept, and were even there expressly for it, but if you weren’t, let’s just say that the head liner performed an impeccable masterclass on a console that has all the makings of a space shuttle control panel rather than the classic turntables. (see picture)

And it was with this in mind that one of my friends, a musician for over 40 years, reacted by saying « this guy’s a DJ from another planet, that’s what Sébastien Léger is! »

and I have to admit that seeing him in his « modular » videos is impressive, but seeing him in person working constantly without letting go of his focus for a single moment to always maneuver the music is frankly remarkable, and technically fascinating.

For Léger’s set, I chose to dance in a slightly secluded spot with a direct view of the dj for a good twenty minutes, to watch him work ceaselessly on his miniature modular console to get the sound out, align the rhythms and explode the sound effects. The guy doesn’t stop for a moment! And he dances, and looks like he’s having fun! A real space shuttle pilot, very much in control and fun to watch play with his dance floor.

I’m no expert in modulations, but in my humble opinion, he delivered a Spectacular performance both melodically and texturally, with a very pure and precise sound, without ever invading the space too much. It was a truly artistically impeccable experience, unique for the dancers and worthy of a masterclass for any DJ. Consequently, Kudo to Sebastien Léger for giving his all during his 90-minute set and delivering the product!

What’s more, he was very kind and agreed to sign the cap that was originally offered by Danny T to several dancers during a Stereo in 2019 or 2020 I believe, a cap that took on sentimental value with each signature (Danny T, Feu Angel Moraes, Chus&Ceballos, Guy-J, John Digweed, Sebastien Léger) **Photo

To perform under the best conditions of success, an international star of this level deserves the best djs to open the evening and warm up the dancers, and it was indeed an opening organically in tune with the « All Day I Dream » sound that H&K offered us, like pros.

You have to realize that for a DJ, it’s not always easy to open for a big name, as it requires a great deal of humility and musical know-how to ensure that the guest’s performance is enhanced without distorting the sound.

If we consider that H&K’s main mission on Friday was to prepare the venue to welcome the artist in ideal conditions and allow him to shine at his best for 90 minutes, then mission accomplished, if I’m to believe everyone who spoke of it after the first part, so opinion very much share by dancers.

And the rest of the evening for them was gravy!

Their return after Léger to continue the night right up to the end obviously enabled them to have a great time and offer us some very tribal and deep groove prog. Their night as a whole lived up to expectations and promises a bright future on the biggest stages for our two boys of the Montreal underground scene. you know, Every night is unique, and every Stereo is different and has its own story to tell, since so does every one of your experiences.

well, according to modular and « analog » logic, the Sébastien Léger set you heard at the Stereo was LIVE, created by the artist at the time, and will never be heard the same way again in the future, which is what gives it its value. Know your luck if you were there.

TWO ANNECDOTES FROM THE « SOUL OF STEREO » AS PROTECTOR…

(Small extra 3 min reading – but REALLY tasty for its incredible conclusion).

To set the scene, have you ever heard the expression « Stereo Spirit »? Or the Soul of Stereo?

The term doesn’t come from me, but it’s been around for decades, and pretty much describes all the magic that goes on there, you know, the good vibe, the mutual aid, the beautiful coincidences, and the hundreds of lost phones or wallets mostly returned to the checkroom?

Well, that’s what we’re talking about…

It’s not always the case, but our group of friends enjoyed two « blessings of the Spirit Stereo » last Friday…. and I have two very graphic anecdotes that illustrate its essence.

1- The neckless on the floor

The first situation is that very late at night, well after Léger’s departure, « by chance », at the top of the steps, I found a jewel of great symbolic value belonging to a friend to whom I had given it some years ago. My friend wears this jewel almost every time he plays music or goes out dancing, and had left the stereo even before I found the Object in question.

Seriously!

What were the odds that in a packed stereo, with everyone passing the steps, not only did no one notice the necklace with the tuning fork-shaped pendant on the floor, which must have been there for at least a good hour, but that I was the one to find it, the guy who gave this unique piece of jewelry to just one other human… What are the odds?

Actually, I wasn’t looking for it, it was the SOUL that made it glow in the dark in a laser reflection. It flashed, twice, intrigued me, I got closer, and when my brain realized what I was seeing, wow! The tuning fork was calling me, literally.

Gratitude! The tuning fork set the right tone… Just that, epic.

2- The second blessing of the Stereo spirit upon us is even crazier:

Well, at closing time, you know how it goes: we chat outside, we smoke, we talk about the evening… It’s chill. I’m chatting with some people I’ve met during the night, with whom we’ve danced and chatted a bit, because downstairs I’d noticed the girl’s tattoo, which caught my eye: everything’s always perfect.

She explains to me that it’s the title of a film (which I’m going to find) and that yes, in the end, isn’t everything ALWAYS perfect? Even long after the fact?

Of Course Girl! I reply.

I think so too, because « things just keep going well »… as we say amongst ourselves.

Meanwhile, one of our group’s friends goes off to the McDonald’s to get some smoothies. He comes back with his hands full…

As he sits on the sidewalk, he realizes he doesn’t have his cell phone in his pocket.

He rushes to the McDonald’s, where he left it on the counter when he paid…

No phone, of course. Someone had picked it up.

You know McDonald’s, it’s not the kind of place you’d expect to be safe… We call the cell phone, the thief has already closed it, impossible to locate with iphone. Damn!

Let’s just say it’s the end of a party and not just about, because all of a sudden, there are emergencies to deal with, like securing accounts, accessing profiles, etc. etc… What a mess!

So we do what we can, try everything with I-Locate and co., with no success, no response.

My second last action before to abandon reaserch was to sent a text message « MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR CELL », in case of it appers even on lock screen… it was one chance on a million…

My very last action was to ask to Stereo S.O.U.L to help us and connect to the conscious of the thiefer in the darkness, and enlight him/her. And we did let it go in the universe…

The day goes by, and later on we call the missing cell again around 4pm, the guy answers.

Yes, he wants money for the phone.

PERFECT, it’s a better option than replacing everything…

So we send someone to Longueil to warn and pick up the owner of the phone, and accompany him to the Mcdo next to the club on Ste-Cath.

As luck would have it, the thief was a homeless man like any other, looking to satisfy his basic needs. He wasn’t a ti-crosseur of fraud. Of course, they tried to open the cell phone but the first thing they saw on the lock screen was my last text message: MONEY FOR PHONE.

when they saw there was nothing they could do, they decided to ask for the cash since it had been offered first. A very good choice.

Everyone knows there’s nothing you can do with a stolen i-phone now, so if you ever have your phone stolen, try this: a short message offering money to get the phone back. Maybe you’ll get lucky – it’s better than all the hassle of getting a new one.

So we set up the meeting exactly where he took the cellphone, the guy arrives, my friend too… He tells him thanks for doing the right thing.

The two of them look at each other…

« I know you, » says my friend. « Take off your glasses »…

Incredible!

the thief was in fact a former cellmate of my friend…

The two of them had known each other very well many years ago, but the other’s life had taken a turn for the worse, and he’d ended up there, a drug addict and on the street.

No bad intentions, just a bad condition, and needs to insure $.

The guy apologized, my friend gave him an amount to thank the good gesture as heard, and even added a little more out of humanism in the name of his « Spirit Of Underground Living » (S.O.U.L.) values…

Seriously!

What improbable statistics to succeed in recovering a missing cell at the Mcdo, and that thanks to our determination and good will, the person who brings the sacred object back to our lives is in fact an old acquaintance of the owner…

Incredible.

In the end, there were no losses, everything went back to normal without any impact on our group, despite two situations that could have left us with great regrets.

On the contrary, we share the Gra-ti-tude towards the Universe, because if that’s not the S.O.U.L of Stereo, I don’t know what is. Of course, we’ll never be able to prove absolutely that things are connected, but in my belief they are, and as a result, consciously asking in my heart to join the thief’s consciousness through the Universe makes perfect sense. We’ll never know, but I believe that love is a powerful influence even on things we don’t understand…

Seriously, you can’t make up a story like that… (actually TWO stories like that) lol

But you can live it at the Stereo!

And you’ve got some too! We’d have dozens to tell over the years…

Finally, the concept of « STEREO MODULATIONS » in our lives:

Like Sébastien Léger’s music, which has to be assembled into a whole thanks to external plug-in modules in order to take shape and have a melodic structure, our lives are made up of modules of time attached or detached, but which form a whole, and sometimes we don’t know where the ties from the past that ensure our futures come from, but they connect us to the big whole anyway, because you know what?
